Space Architects Thriving through Testing Times
Space Architects are a team of architects, designers, and technologists who specialise in the creative re-use of buildings, design optimisation and circular decarbonisation.
In conversation with CEO Rob Charlton back in 2018 he said “some of our senior people were over busy because they couldn’t or wouldn’t delegate”.
That year, The Senior Team undertook our Delegate4Results (D4R) programme with the stated purpose of ensuring leadership through effective delegation in order to create awesome teams that do great stuff and strengthen relationships.
In February 2020, Rob asked staff about the impact of the programme and “67% agreed that delegation was driving performance improvement in Space”.
Building on D4R, we were then commissioned to run our DeliverStart2Finish™ (DS2F) leadership team development throughout the rest of 2020.
Rob explained the context at the start of the DS2F programme – “other organisations are making people redundant or putting them into furlough, companies are laying people off. It’s awful times. For instance, one Tier 1 contractor closed all sites, furloughed staff and reduced salaries by 30%”.
He went on to say that he felt optimistic and was pleased with how they had responded to the pandemic and how all team members had adjusted to homeworking seamlessly, but was concerned about them not knowing what’s going on in the outside world.
It was truly a time for joined up leadership.
As part of the DS2F work, the leadership team created then implemented their “Rethink 23” Strategy.
Rob closed the programme saying “Thanks for everyone staying positive, energised and committed to this process. Don’t underestimate how positive this is and how aligned we all are – it’s pretty special. In all the time I’ve worked here, this is the team that can achieve 2023, we really can!”
Towards the end of 2022 Dave Stitt caught up with Rob who said “We have had the two best consecutive years ever by some considerable margin and have hit or surpassed most of our Rethink 23 targets”.
Rob and his team followed the coaching process, they did the work and stayed the course during extreme and testing times. Their joined up leadership has enabled remarkable business results, with more to come!
