How to get grit

If you’re dispirited, frazzled and on the verge of giving up:

  1. Take a break: Unhook for a day or two. Unwind, refresh your body and mind, and let your subconscious work on the problem for a bit.
  2. Talk to people: A sympathetic ear and a fresh perspective can really boost your confidence.
  3. Try another tack: If you’re getting nowhere on the main front, circle and try from a less obvious one. This could help you see the problem in a new light.
  4. Tidy your desk: De-cluttering can help you think, and reducing the pile of boring little tasks gives a sustaining shot of optimism.
