What would make you happy?
“What’s the matter?”
“Nothing.”
“Aren’t you happy?”
“Not really.”
“Why not?”
“I don’t know.”
“Are you unhappy?”
“Well, no.”
“Are you sad?”
“No. I’m just sort of… fed up.”
“Fed up with what?”
“Work. Stuff. You know.”
“No I don’t. What?”
“I’m just, well… bored.”
Bingo! The riddle of the ages solved. The opposite of happiness is not sadness, but boredom.
The antidote to boredom is excitement.
So the right question is, What would make you excited?
How about being free to do something important?
