Costain – Delivering to Plan

Costain’s Building Division had been underperforming prior to Alex Vaughan’s appointment as Managing Director in 2008. He invited DSA to support him
in the delivery of his business turnaround plan. A three year, three pronged approach created a “can’t fail strategy” for the “Deliver to Plan” programme.

The three elements:

  • Divisional leadership team development – promoting intense focus on customers and a constant drive for business outperformance
  • “Leading Best Practice” programme for the top thirty managers, to ensure effective operational and commercial governance
  • Developing collaborative and customer focused delivery on every project

The first and third elements were based on the DSA Collaborate Start2Finish™ methodology for building and sustaining leadership teams.

DSA created a positive, energetic and safe environment, which was action focused, to deliver business results. The programme resulted in better relationships with customers and the supply chain, improved and consistent performance across the division and overarching performance of the business. Most pleasing was all the key players ended up having a much bigger role in the company.
