Costain – Implementing Best Practice (IBP)
Costain is now a highly successful Infrastructure and technology led engineering solutions provider, though back in the late 90’s its share price was suspended on
the stock market following difficulties in oversees mining and some heavy loss making UK projects.
The response was a business turn around programme, based on best established practice throughout the entire UK contracting business.
DSA was invited to design and facilitate the IBP programme to all Costain staff.
This involved:
- Coaching the in-house technical experts in presentation and engagement skills
- Creating a safe and high energy learning environment
- 10,000 person days training over a seven year period from 2001 to 2008
Remarkable results
- A common and best practice approach to winning and delivering construction projects
- Trained and inspired staff with improved morale
- A stable, more profitable business
- New Civil Engineer Contractor of the Decade Award in 2010
This had a significant impact on Costain’s performance, creating ‘One Costain’ and the stable foundation and springboard to our success.
