Clancy Docwra

Creating and delivering a five year vision

In 2009, with the civil engineering sector in deep recession, Clancy Docwra faced the prospect of losing four major contracts, which represented two thirds of its £200 million turnover.

The newly promoted Chief Operations Officer, Seamus Keogh, commissioned DSA to design and deliver a programme with the purpose of:

  • Building the top team of main board directors so they are effectively leading the business
  • Creating a business improvement programme that is taking the company towards the board’s vision, while involving key members of staff in its implementation
  • Strengthening the culture of follow through

Remarkable results

Within three years turnover, profit, cash and the forward order book were at record levels and the business had been named New Civil Engineer Contractor of the Year. At the conclusion of the DSA programme the board acknowledged that:

  • It was more focused and cohesive
  • It had developed a client focused business structure
  • It was commercially robust and
  • Turnover and profitability were growing

Led by the board, the company delivered its 2015 Vision one year early – remarkable follow through!

We saw quantifiable business benefits in three ways. Personally, I’ve developed in my role; the executive team is working more closely as a team; and the focus that has come as a result has had demonstrable benefits on both people and profit.
